Cruise ship Azamara Quest limps into port after engine room fire

 

The Azamara Quest was on a voyage from Hong Kong to Singapore when a blaze broke out on Friday evening, forcing the 700 passengers to gather at evacuation points as a precaution. On Saturday, though, after several hours adrift in the seas off the Philippines, it regained engine power and began heading for repairs at the port of Sandakan in Malaysia. Guests aboard the boat, who pay £2,500 for a 17-night voyage, were told that the rest of the cruise would be cancelled. A statement from Azamara Club Cruises said that no passengers had been injured, but that five crew members had suffered from smoke inhalation, with one in a more serious condition. Jeremy Scott, a travel agent from Pinner, Middlesex, whose parents were on board the ship, said: "I have spoken to them and all seems well.
